Afghans for the bake sale

Today we had fun learning how to make Afghan cookies.  Miss Sampson got the recipe from the classic Edmond's Cook book.



The ingredients were:
200g of butter
1/2 cup of sugar
1/4 cup of cocoa
1 1/4 cups of flour
2 cups of cornflakes.

We talked about how 2 half cups would fit into 1 cup, and 4 quarter cups will fit into 1 cup, that is why we write half as 1/2 and a quarter as 1/4.

We all had a taste of the cookie dough before it was cooked - everyone thought it was yummy. We also discovered that cocoa by itself is very bitter (or the word the kids used was "yuck!").

After the cookies were mixed and baked, we decorated them with icing (made by melting 200g of cooking chocolate, 25 grams of butter and 1/2 a cup of cream and mixing them together), and m&m's.
Everyone had a turn at icing the cookies (even if there isn't a photo of your child - Miss Sampson had sticky fingers so couldn't always take photos!)
